Celebrating Peel's vibrant and diverse Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transsexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer, Questioning, 2 Spirit (LGBTTIQQ2S) communities

Pride Week in Peel 2014 started off amazingly!

The Festival at Mississauga Celebration Square was a busy one, with over 30 community organizations participating in the community fair, lots of people attending the event for the first time, a live interview with insauga, great performers, and of course, the march! We could not have done this without the support of volunteers, performers, community groups, and supporters!

On Saturday, the 3rd annual Peel Trans* Pride event took place in Brampton, with lovely hosts, lots of crafting and delicious food.

And on Monday morning, we smiled as the the Rainbow flag was raised by Brampton Mayor Susan Fennell and Councillor Elaine Moore at Brampton City Hall!

We’ll post a recap within the next couple of weeks…in the meantime, we’ll see you at the rest of the #pwip14 events.

Rainbow Flag Raising at Brampton City Hall will take place at 11 am

Please take note of this important update.  We have been informed that the Rainbow Flag Raising at Brampton City Hall will begin at 11 am on Monday, July 14, 2014. Please note the change in your calendars!

Previous outreach indicated that the Flag Raising was at 12 pm – we do apologize for the inconvenience, and do appreciate it if the corrected time could be shared widely.

Getting Close…!

Pride Week in Peel 2014 is just around the corner!

Last week, we had two media interviews (both on Rogers TV), so watch your television screens for those to be airing shortly. This past weekend, Pride Week in Peel had a booth at WorldPride Toronto, and connected with lots of community members, spreading the word about the great events we’ve got planned. We gave out lots of beautiful buttons and postcards, and shared our hashtag (#pwip14) so that we can continue the conversations on social media!

We are less than 2 weeks away from the start of Pride Week in Peel 2014, and there’s lots on the go:

  • We have a deputation at Mississauga City Council on Wednesday, July 2nd at 9:00 am – come on out, you early birds! Or watch the livestream online here
  • The Festival is co-presenting an Open Mic Night with the Mississauga Arts Council on Friday, July 4th at 6:00 pm – come if you can, or follow the conversation on Twitter
  • We will have a presence in Bolton at the Bolton Farmers Market on Saturday, July 5th at 9:00 am – click here for more information about the Market

Next week, we’ll be in the thick of things with our preparation for the Festival taking place on July 11th. There will be logistics to organize, volunteers to coordinate with, artists to confirm details with, and more!!

As always, we love to hear from you – please get in touch with us directly with your comments and questions. If you want to get involved, please do contact us!

We can’t wait!

The Pride Week in Peel Festival grows and gets better each year – and this year, we’re SO excited to introduce something new!! A community member approached us with this idea, and we are so thankful that they did!

The Feelin’ Fab Fashion Show will take place during the Pride Week in Peel Festival on July 11, 2014 at Mississauga Celebration Square (Amphitheatre). This is a chance for community members to model an outfit (or two) that they feel really great in. That outfit could be home-made, something borrowed, something new, or something that’s been lying around!

There will also be an opportunity for those modelling to speak briefly about their outfits, if so desired. (Totally voluntary!)

If you are interested in finding out more about Feelin’ Fab, and to check out the application, just click here

… did we mention we’re EXCITED?

We are about a month away from Pride Week in Peel 2014!

Things are abuzz with excitement – and that is just growing by the day!

The Pride Week in Peel (PWIP) Planning Team has already been out in the community doing outreach, like at the Bread & Honey Festival and Race Against Racism. We’ll be at Malton Community Festival this coming week, and of course we’ll have a booth at WorldPride Toronto. We are always looking for volunteers who want to help with outreach efforts, whether that means distributing postcards in your networks, being at community event tables, spreading the word online, or more…! If you’d like to volunteer, simply fill out a volunteer application here.

Performer applications are still making their way in, so we are keeping the performer application form active online to allow more folks to express their interest in performing at the Festival on July 11th at Mississauga Celebration Square. And speaking of performances …. we are thrilled to be partnering with the Mississauga Art Council to host an open mic on Friday, July 4 at C Café (which is in Civic Centre), right by our Festival Venue!!
